Let’s talk about not giving up! I won’t let fear get the best of me.
I just turned on Pandora …. Wondering what I should write about…. The song, “You’ve Got A Friend” by James Taylor started playing- When you are down and troubled and nothing is going right, just call out my name and you know, wherever I am.. I’ll come running… When that song came out in 1971, I was 13 years old – Yup, that’s right, I am 57 – I often need to do the math to figure out my age. Maybe some people feel their age in their body, mind and spirit… But I feel younger in my body, younger yet in my mind- but my spirit feels older to me. That’s a nice thought, an old spirit. My spirit, comprises my memories, it’s my emotions of love and understanding.
One problem I have had in feeling younger in my body is thinking I can physically do something that I can’t… for instance: a month ago, I took a big fall as I was jumping across a deck I had just stained. I banged my head against the door. That’s right, I banged my head up against the wall! What did I learn? Like with my words before I speak, make sure to use the right words- Before I jump, unless it’s into water, don’t do it! Actually, I blamed the fall on my loosely fitted shoes. After my ego was healed, I realized that it wasn’t just my shoes.
So, you know what! I have decided not to let this hold me back- I just need better training! I need to get stronger, leaner- I have since jumped that jump and made it! Let’s talk about not giving up! I won’t let fear get the best of me. What is it that you have failed at? Whatever it is, don’t let it hold you back- You have the resources, figure it out and keep trying.
It was nice to have a friend come home and put ice on my bump, and check my pupils and ask me my name. Since 1975, my husband has been my best friend- Young in my mind, remembering my youth and not willing to let go of it.

You can overcome anxiety by living a life of gratitude. So what is living a life of gratitude? Are the happiest people living a life of gratitude? Of course, I can only write from my own experience, so to answer that question, my answer is yes! The more I have acknowledged my gratitude, the happier I have become. How does someone go about “getting” or “building” a greater sense of gratitude? My answer to that would be to “practice gratitude” — It’s beautiful how, we as humans, are all so different in how we come to see our world. Thinking back to my childhood, I can remember just bouncing along, not really giving too much thought about what was going on around me. About the only thing I recall was the question, “when do I get to go outside to play?” That thought, brings my eyes to water a bit and a small swell in my heart. I loved to play kickball, dodgeball, monkey bars, tetherball, hopscotch. You name it, if it was physical, I was ready to play! I didn’t realize then on how fortunate I was.
I would say that on the average, I am well above the “live in gratitude” chart. So, I will share how I think about gratitude, or in my case, don’t think and just feel. If we do think about it, gratitude is something that we feel, it is within me, an emotion. I am and always have been a believer in Christ Jesus, as a small child, I can recall walking myself to church. I mention my faith, because for me, it is who I send my gratitude to. It is also my belief, that for me, gratitude is a grace from God. Of course, as in prayer, mediation and hypnosis it can develop stronger with practice. It also, doesn’t have to be a grace from God. You can give it to yourself.
What I do to deepen my gratitude; I saturate my thoughts, my life and my environment with positive quotes, people and stimulating surroundings. Often times, I have my clients reframe a word or thought, such as; “I’m not strong enough” to simply, “I am strong enough.” I then will go on to add …. Everyday and in everyway you are getting stronger and stronger. Before long, you will start to catch yourself and others, in staying positive with your “self talk.” — Until you feel strong enough in your gratitude status, it would be wise to stay away from people who are negative.
Also, watch out for dream stealers, people who do not see the abundance of possibilities that we are all capable of. We can achieve anything we put our minds to! Believe in yourself, breathe that in, find that child within you that still loves to play. Recall the good memories, fill your bodies cells with those memories- allow yourself to see the light of possibilities. And then…. you know what? SMILE! it’s true, happy endorphins get released into our bodies. I smile when I am alone, driving and so on. It too takes practice, before long, you will catch yourself smiling over a piece of toast! 🙂 It really is the best accessory you can wear!

Hypnosis In Seattle can help you with setbacks and anxiety. When you have a setback, what is your first thought? Many people may say “crap” (or another word for crap). Depending of course, on what the setback is. In general, what is your first response? Let me list a possibility; Fear rashes through your body, this anxiety causes your blood pressure to rise, your heart starts to race- This response is what we call our sympathetic nervous system, or you may have heard of it as our fight or flight response. The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is part of the autonomic nervous system (ANA), which also includes the parasympathetic nervous system.
Basically, there are two ways of coping or dealing with a setback or situation. Sympathetic, just react, which is important if your setback is fleeing from danger, such as, the cave man running from a tiger. Today it might be a wreck that leads into traffic jam, making you unable to attend a child’s performance. The sympathetic mode of our ANA is very important initially, to keep us from immediate danger. Once, you are out of danger, it is very important to get yourself back into the parasympathetic mode, which activates tranquility. Our parasympathetic mode activates a tranquil feeling of peace and calmness. It is in this state that we are better able to make our best decisions.
This is the reason I chose to become a hypnotherapist, assisting people to learn basic techniques to stay in a calm and peaceful state of awareness. Hypnosis is, in my opinion, misunderstood by the vast majority of people. While in hypnosis, you are actually in a heightened awareness while in the most relaxed state. With the pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-taxed. We need to find time for fun. We often hear people say that there is not enough time in the day to get everything done. We are stressed and tired, this puts our bodies in the sympathetic mode of fight or flight- It can affect our health, and overtime can be very harmful. This is when we need to STOP and meditate. The day Hypnosis helped my emotional health – is one that will never be forgotten. One day many years ago while I was at work- I got out of my chair to go to the printer in the other room, out of the blue I started limping. I was so upset and scared by this- I wondered, what was happening to me? After limping for a few days I went to a shoe store, where I was fitted with my first pair of Dansko shoes. I remember so clearly the great relief I felt, I said to myself, “It’s a miracle” – After having tears of thankfulness, I had a smile on my face all that day. The next week, I visited a Podiatrist. He was puzzled when I told him that I felt numbness under my two middle toes. He did an x-ray and told me that I had a Neuroma. However, he couldn’t figure out why my foot would be numb and why I didn’t feel any pain and I was told that I could never walk in sand again, I couldn’t walk bare foot, I could never wear high heals, all kinds of don’ts. Like a good patient, I shook my head in agreement. I left feeling sad. What I needed was hypnosis for emotional health.
It wasn’t until I was studying Hypnotherapy, we were getting started in medical, clinical session of our studies. My instructor asked the class, “who has a medical issue that you would like to work on”? He went around the the class, came to me, I told him that I had a Neuroma- He thought for a moment and said, “yeah, we can use that, that’s been cured before” – We then got into groups of three, I was the client with the issue, two of my classmates were the hypnotherapists. I have to be honest, I didn’t think it could be done, it was after all a medical condition, not an emotional health issue. I thought, “what the heck,” I’ll play along. My two hypnotherapist did a fantastic job, very thorough. What we discovered was at that same time in my life, when the numbness started, I felt lost and I felt left behind. My three daughters, had all graduated from college and moved on with their lives. I suppose you could call it empty nest syndrome. I just wanted to numb myself, so that the feelings wouldn’t be so strong. For many years I lived with the notion that I had a numbing Neuroma, and it would always be there. I excepted what I was told. I had no idea at that time that hypnosis would help my emotional health.
What we do as hypnotherapists is to ask the issue (numbness) what it needs to feel better. What my numbness wanted was “connectedness” …. My hypnotherapist used the words “day by day the numbing is going away, we use “day by day” because increments are often easier for most of us to except. My hypnotherapist than told my subconscious positive actions steps on staying connected and so on. One of the visualizations I chose for my therapy, was to walk in sand barefoot, and to wear shoes that I didn’t consider homely. Within a few days of my session, slowly, day by day, I noticed the numbness was subsiding. I admit, I was surprised- I thought, wow, that’s cool and amazing. Hypnosis helped my emotional health.
Soon after I left the Academy in Santa Fe, NM, I came home to Seattle. It was a Saturday afternoon, I said to my husband, “I am tired, how about a vacation to Hawaii?” The next morning we were on a flight to Maui. That is where I felt so liberated, I walked barefoot in the sand with no numbness what so ever. I walked near the water anyway- most of the sand was too hot to walk on. Although I am sure, if I put my mind to it, hot sand would not bother me either.
Slowly I am wearing cute shoes. I am not over doing it, I find myself still a bit cautious. I stay connected. What you should take away from this is that our emotions play a huge part in our physical wellness.

Another way to learn focused attention is through the use of mantra. A mantra is the repetition of a sacred word.
